Air Travel

Plans should be made for arrival on Sunday and a departure after 4 P.M. on Thursday. Round trip transportation to and from Syracuse International Airport ($40) can be arranged by advance notification. Shuttles will depart on Sarturday at approximately 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. All transportation fees must be paid in advance. Contact Camp Director before finalizing your flight, bus, or train arrangements.

Colgate University is located in the village of Hamilton, in the historic district at the northern end of the Chenango Valley, in upstate New York. Hamilton, with a population of approximately 2,500 people, is an old and beautiful town centered around a village green. Students frequently shop in the village, but many resources are available to them right on campus.

The 1,400 acres of the campus rise from the village to a forested hill. The campus divides naturally into two parts, with the older buildings above and much of the new construction below. With the exception of Dana Arts Center and the Everett Needham Case Library, the academic facilities are located on the hill.

Traveling to Colgate

Hamilton, New York is located on Route 12B, not Route 12 or Route 20; this is the most important fact to remember in locating Colgate. The following directions may also help you:

From New York Metropolitan area: The Tappan Zee Bridge (NYS Thruway) to Route 17 west (Exit 16) to Deposit (Exit 84). At Deposit, right on Route 8 north to New Berlin, then Route 80 west to Sherburne. Right on Route 12, then bear left on Route 12B to Hamilton.

From North of Westchester: NYS Thruway Exit 25A, follow I-88 south to the first exit, and pick up Route 20 west; at Madison, south on 12B to Hamilton.

From Boston: Mass. Pike to NYS Thruway (connect I-87 North, I-90 West toward Buffalo), Take exit 25A and follow I-88 south to the first exit, then pick up Route 20 west; at Madison, south on 12B.

From North Central N.J.: Follow I-80 West. Exit to I-380 northwest toward Scranton, to I-81 north to Binghamton. Exit 6 for Route 12 north to Sherburne, and 12B to Hamilton.

From Philadelphia: take Northeast Extension of PA Turnpike to I-81 at Scranton; north on I-81 to Binghamton. Exit 6 for Route 12 north to Sherburne; bear left on 12B north to Hamilton.

From the West (Buffalo, Ohio, etc.) and from Syracuse Airport : Take NYS Thruway east to Exit 34 (Canastota). Left onto 13, then left onto Route 5 east to Oneida, right on 46 south, across Route 20 to 12B south for Hamilton.

By Small Aircraft:  Hamilton Municipal Airport is located just north of town on route 12B.  Though it is not served by any commercial airlines, it is used by many people visiting Colgate.  Call Keib Air Service at (315) 824-6681 for more details.
